The month of January always seems to bring a greater period of reflection than other months. Time to remember all that has happened in the past year and look forward to not only things to come in the new year, but also (hopefully!) changes we hope to carry out in our lives.
As I began to think back over the past year, I am reminded of God's amazing faithfulness. A year ago, we were seeking to discern God's call to a church in Washington. This would mean selling our home, leaving the community where we had developed strong friendships, and moving from California. This was a huge decision and we carefully and prayerfully decided to move. In late May, we packed up our house (actually, the amazing moving company, Bekins did!) and drove to Vancouver, Washington.
We had rented a house there, not far from the church, and got unpacked fairly quickly (except for the 3 or so boxes that have become like furniture in our room!). We were welcomed by the church community as well as some friendly neighbors. It was amazing the peace that God provided me through this transition. I had a deep sense that we were in the place where He wanted us.
A couple weeks later I received a phone call from a woman from the church, Rachel. She was inviting me to be a part of a Bible study that met weekly. I agreed to go and have been attending ever since. What a wonderful opportunity God has provided for me to meet new women and grow deeper in my faith.
And Rachel is a runner! She has four kids under five and pushes three of them while the oldest rides his bike! We have been meeting up to run for months now. I am grateful for the influence and inspiration she is in my life!
Each new day brings moments of joy...especially because my days are spent with Clara. She is such a fun-loving and easy-going little girl. I am amazed when I think back to our move 7 months ago, when she wasn't even crawling. Now she is running, speaking, climbing, coloring, and so interactive! Her smile and peek-a-boo games are contagious. She brings so much energy and joy to our family!
I look forward to what 2011 holds- for the challenges, surprises, joys, and changes. May the Lord go before us as He has thus far!
